December 4, 2016:
TEAMS - 2022 Blue, 2021 Blue
On Friday, December 3, our 2022 and 2021 teams loaded a charter bus to start their travel down South to the University of North Carolina Play Day. Throughout the weekend the teams were involved in many different events on the campus of North Carolina.
Once the teams arrived in Chapel Hill, they had a meal at their hotel and then attended the UNC Men's playoff soccer game, where the Tar Heels won in double overtime. Following the game, the teams headed back to the hotel for a time of fellowship and huddles.
On Saturday, the 2021's and 2022's played in the UNC Playday at Finley Field, where the teams went a combined 4-2 on the day against some of the countries best competition.
Following the day of lacrosse, our FCA program was blessed to break bread with current UNC and Duke Men's Lacrosse Players: Stephen Kelly, Jack Rowlett, Brian Balkam, Timmy Kelly, Tom Welch, Danny Fowler, Cade Van Raapohorst, & Greg Pelton. After dinner, the players held a panel discussion led by Coach Frank Kelly. Following the panel discussion, the collegiate players led huddle groups with the current FCA players, reflecting on the thoughts of the evening.
Sunday morning began with a time of worship with FCA players and families, led by Coaches Frank Kelly, Andy Droney and leader of FCA North Carolina, Scott Hodgson. Following the worship, the teams loaded the bus for a tour of the UNC Athletic Facilities that was concluded with University of North Carolina Head Men's Lacrosse Coach, Joe Breschi addressing the teams about Family, Academics and Lacrosse.
Before the boy's loaded the bus for the long trip back to Maryland, they attended the UNC/Radford Men's Basketball game in Chapel Hill.
The weekend left many fantastic memories for our FCA program on and off the lacrosse field. Below are a few thoughts from Coaches Frank Kelly and Andy Droney, followed by photos from the weekend!
Coach Frank Kelly: "It was an amazing weekend of and off the field. We had a great time together traveling on the bus, meals together and fellowship."
Coach Andy Droney: "I began my involvement with FCA at Calvert Hall in 1987 and have been involved with the program as a player and coach on and off for nearly 30 years. I can honestly say this was one of the best FCA events I have ever been a part of. Great lacrosse, great fellowship between players and parents, an incredible evening program with current Duke and UNC players all capped off with a tour of UNC and a Q&A session with UNC Head Coach, Joe Breschi."
